Robert E. Gerwien, Sr. Scholarship Endowment

The Robert E. Gerwien Scholarship Foundation believes in the value of an Immaculate college-preparatory education to students. The mission and purpose of the Foundation is to raise funds to support students in Danbury and surrounding communities with the necessary resources to obtain a Catholic high school education at Immaculate High School.  Supporting students who embody the characteristics and enthusiasm to develop further their college-preparatory academic skills, strengthening their faith and emulating a commitment to serving others is reflective of the vision of our beloved principal, Mr. Robert E. Gerwien, Sr. who served Immaculate with love and distinction for over 30 years.

Bishop Frank J. Caggiano was born in Brooklyn in 1959 to Italian immigrant parents and was raised in Sts. Simon and Jude Parish. After initially studying political science at Yale, he discerned a call to the priesthood, earning a degree in philosophy instead.

Ordained in 1987, he served in various pastoral roles in Brooklyn before being appointed auxiliary bishop in 2006.

In 2013, Pope Francis named him Bishop of Bridgeport, where he has led initiatives for diocesan renewal, youth engagement, evangelization and Catholic education.
